Reflections on Personal Stories
Some of the greatest learning opportunities in my lifetime are treasured gifts, sometimes coming from the most unexpected places.
Rob White shares a collection of personal stories, starting in childhood, that shaped his life. One story that touched my heart is the lesson he learned from Rose Kennedy when he was a student working at a lavish party: “If it is to be, it’s up to me.” Each of us has the choice to defy the odds and reach for our dream. But first, you need to have faith in yourself.
Mr. White grew up in a small town in Massachusettes. One of his stories, about his Aunt Theresa, reminded me of all the comments I heard about “Old Maids” in my hometown in the midwest. What we learn about love and compassion from those we love and those who are scorned is priceless. Rob White deftly teaches us we need to decide in favor of ourselves because there’s more to us than we now believe.
The Lessons
As you read the stories, you quickly realize that traditions and expectations are community and family based. What someone else has planned for your life isn’t necessarily what’s best for you. White’s stories give you a glimpse into the decisions and future you genuinely want to pursue.
You will learn that winning without integrity is not a win. I love how Mr. White impresses the reader to rejoice in each accomplishment, to never get trapped into doing something you don’t want to do, to use your power to direct your destiny, and that age, race, and gender just don’t matter when it comes to success.
The Power
“If you’re sitting in the back, it’s time to make a move. The show is still going on. It’s a great show. It’s your show! Step up front; step into your power; stop watching life as a distant spectator. Nothing’s holding you back except you. Open your eyes to what life is trying to show you.” ~ Rob White
After reading this book, move forward in life with a conviction to go beyond the boundaries old beliefs, and others have set for you. Your power is without limit.
It’s folks like you, Peggy, folks who make it known how often life gives us our right to live prosperously, that are blessings to humanity. Just your attitude is a gift to anyone you meet. I thank you for praising my book. Your awareness of how often magic happens when we allow realty’s wisdom to flood over us – now that’s something worth sharing! Blessings to you, Rob White
Thank you, Rob White! I’ve walked a rather rocky path in this life, but the successes have far outweighed the losses. As I read your book, I was drawn back to the words of my grandfather time and time again. I describe him to people as having the kindest heart of any person I’ve ever met. He’d have so enjoyed sitting down to chat with you. There is no higher compliment!
Sounds like a great book. I’ll be buying that one soon!
I loved how it brought me back to so many of the same lessons I learned throughout life.
