Saturday’s Pick: Marrying Mandy

Marrying Mandy is Story of Transition

Marrying Mandy is a clean read you will find hard to put down.
Marrying Mandy is a delicately crafted novel of inner conflict and the compassion necessary to remove the walls of protection.
The loss of his job threatens Preston Yarrow’s shaky financial stability. Besides, he can’t watch his best friend give up the only real home she’s ever known. Frustrated by Mandy’s stubborn refusal to let him help, he’s certain they are stronger together than they are apart. A marriage of convenience might be crazy… or an answer to both their prayers. – Description from Marrying Mandy.

It’s been a tough couple of months at our house. Following my surgery in December, I received the results back of a test done days before the surgery. The results of the test were positive for a possibly cancerous growth. None of the surgeons were willing to do an exploratory procedure until at least three months after the surgery.

We have struggled, as a couple, to deal with yet another challenge. Sure, I’m seventy now, but I honestly don’t feel that old. The thought that I might have to say goodbye now is unacceptable. I can’t imagine leaving this life and the people I love with all my heart.

I’ve featured Melanie D. Snitker before on my blog and I know she writes clean fiction. I wanted a few hours of escape from my worries and picked up Marrying Mandy to hopefully give me a diversion from the agony of not knowing my future yet again. I wasn’t disappointed.

My Review

I immediately bonded with Mandy and her wish to avoid the tragedy a divorce places on the children left behind. Mandy suffered the greatest betrayal when neither of her parents wanted her after the divorce. Those of us who have experienced divorce understand the loss, but being unwanted is the ultimate catastrophe when Mandy learns she must live at the Bed & Breakfast with her grandparents.

One childhood friend, Preston, stood beside Mandy throughout the years, and it’s no surprise he continues to be her stalwart companion when her grandparents are both now gone. This is a story about finding love with your best friend. When a heart closes to any further pain, it’s difficult to allow the glow of hope to permeate the walls erected for protection. It’s a story of faith, love, compassion, and hope. Sometimes we find others can find small ways to bolster our hopes when we have totally given up on any dreams of a better life.

I desperately needed an escape from a potentially devastating diagnosis when I picked up this book, and I delighted in spending several hours totally immersed in the challenge Mandy faced as she struggled with her grandparent’s will and the leap of faith they were asking her to take. Once in a while, we discover the answers to our own prayers in a story written by someone who has felt the depths of our struggles and shares the inspiration we so desperately need.

Marrying Mandy is a love-filled story of new beginnings and restored faith.

Marrying Mandy is an inspirational romance without objectionable content.
