Monday Guest Post: Author Linda Lee Greene

Welcome, Linda Lee Greene!

Author, artist, interior designer, mother of two, grandmother of two: Linda Lee Greene tells us:

I was born in Peebles, Adams County, Ohio in the farmhouse bedroom of my maternal grandparents.

The farm sat on the rim of the enormous star-wound there that forms the bedrock of one of the largest earthworks in existence: the world-famous Great Serpent Mound. Built by a culture of early Native Americans, it tugs at my Cherokee blood and makes me all the prouder of my heritage.

Mother of a son and a daughter, and grandmother of two grandsons, I live in Columbus, Ohio. In addition to being a best-selling author, I am also an award-winning artist. You can view an extensive exhibition of my artwork at www.gallery-llgreene.com. You can click to see my award-winning blog, “In Good Company.”  I also co-host on the blog   “The River Time.”

Linda Lee Greene’s Early Childhood

As a child on the farm of my maternal grandparents in Southern Ohio, and while carted around on the shoulders of my teenage uncles, or on the broad, tall backs of our horses, my view of life began atop those high places.

From those lofty vantage points, the fairytale landscape and the storybook yarns spun by the hill people there impressed my mind’s eye and ear so indelibly. They emerged over the years as images in my artwork and as the bedrocks of my last three books.

The first of the three, “Guardians and Other Angels” is a novel of historical fiction blended with the real story of my Southern Ohio ancestors during the early to middle Twentieth Century. It has been compared to Pulitzer Prize winners, “The Grapes of Wrath,” and “Angela’s Ashes.”

Linda Lee Greene is the Author of “Rooster Tale.”

My novella for young readers is titled “Rooster Tale.” Adapted from an excerpt of “Guardians and Other Angels,” and although primarily for young readers, people of all ages tell me they love it too.

I chose the setting for the book on a farm overlooking the famous Serpent Mound Crater in Adams County, Ohio in the USA.

Freda the Fowl, Roger the Horse, and their barnyard neighbors tell the story. The enchanting yarn will pull at your heartstrings when young Bussy Gaffin gets mad at his favorite pet Tarzan, the champion

The enchanting yarn will pull at your heartstrings when young Bussy Gaffin gets angry at his cherished pet Tarzan, the Champion Rooster of all time.

Because the boy doesn’t take time out and calm down, he does something that later makes him feel really sad. But, a happy surprise from Bussy’s little sister Bette helps him to feel better.

An overview of my current novel for adult readers, “Cradle of the Serpent” is available to read on my Amazon Author page.

A Book Can Revitalize A Life

My college instructors encouraged me to write professionally, but life got in the way.

The idea settled in my consciousness as only a pined-for dream that seemed utterly doomed. But fate stepped in on the morning of August 10, 2000, while I was lying in bed suffering yet another flare-up of the Crohns Disease that had plagued me for nearly a decade.

That is the morning I decided I hadn’t much left to look forward to in life any longer. Fate got me on my feet and sent me to the shower. While there, a story (a murder mystery, no less) flowed over me as if the words lived within the molecules of the water.

I returned to my bed with a notepad and pen. Then, I began to write, and in those few moments, my life had purpose and validity again. I found a new life as an author of books. That book became an Amazon best-seller.

Backstory

I was born in the farmhouse bedroom of my maternal grandparents, an enchanted homestead that ranges a portion of the south rim of the enormous star-wound in Peebles, Adams County, Ohio, USA.

A crypto-explosion-crater there forms the rock layer of one of the largest earthworks in existence: the world-famous “Great Serpent Mound.” Built by a culture of early American Indians, the mound tugs at the part of me that is Cherokee. It makes me especially proud of my native heritage.
